Year of the Woman!
Lovett Recognise Leading Ladies in Business
It has been exactly one century since women in Britain won the right to vote in 1918. To mark the century many have labelled 2018 as The Year of the Woman! Although there were restrictions in the way that only women over the age of 30 who met a property qualification could vote, it later led to the Equal Franchise Act of 1928 where women finally won the same voting rights as men. Hurrah!
The estate agency industry in Britain, unlike agency in most other countries, is still dominated by men. As an industry, we are possibly among the guiltiest of all in terms of gender discrimination and it is still rife in some agencies, however we’d like to think with the current worldwide subjects and protests, women are really starting to turn the tables.
At a time when women are climbing to the top of their fields, more than two thirds of award winning sales offices across the country are being run by women bosses according to the Property Industry Eye, compared to just over a quarter two years previously. A straw poll of industry professionals taken by Estate Agent Today last year revealed that opinion over the relevance of gender in the property and marketing industry remained mixed, with some respondents listing the feminine qualities that assisted those working in the industry and others adamant that capability was about individual approach rather than gender.
Either way, what we find most important at Lovett Estate and Letting Agents is a strong team ethic, non-judgemental or biased. We feel proud our men and women work hand in hand to the best of their abilities and all support and encourage each other whilst providing a 100% first-rate and professional service at all times.
How We Show Our Support
A particular organisation we have proudly sponsored and are excited to announce Lovett Estate and Letting Agents will be supporting again this year is the Dorset Venus Awards, a company who were formed in 2009 to recognise, reward and celebrate local working women in business.
Their ethos like ours at Lovett Estate Agents is ‘Women play such a pivotal role in our local economies, it is crucial that hard-working business women have the spotlight shone upon them. As the Venus phenomenon rolls on across the country, more women in business will stand up and let the world know what they do, how they do it, and the challenges they face’.
We look forward to supporting this fantastic event once again and will keep you all posted on which award we will be sponsoring this year! Go Ladies!
We feel optimistic that 2018 could bring a significant step-change towards female equality and we are ready to embrace it, women across the country are more energized and resolute than ever.
Meet Our Women
We would love you to meet just some of our leading ladies and see for yourself why they are so greatly respected and have every confidence they could do their various job roles with their eyes closed!
