The Police Safe Neighbourhood Team

Work is well underway to transform the former Argos building in Boscombe into a landmark site which will offer multiple services under one roof.

Once the transformation is completed, the Boscombe Regeneration team, Dorset Police Safer Neighbourhood officers and a brand new Youth Services drop in centre will be housed there. Work to transform the ground floor is well underway and once finished, it will complement other works in the area such as the revitalised Crescent across the road and the shared space scheme which aims to reduce speed, improve access for pedestrians and cyclists and enhance the overall environment.

Councillor Jane Kelly, Cabinet Member for Partnerships and Regeneration, said: “The former Argos building is in a prime location in Boscombe and it will provide a great central location for these key services who are all working towards improving Boscombe as a place to live, work and visit. It will have a really positive impact to see this space being used again.

“I’m especially looking forward to the much needed additional drop-in centre for the young people of Boscombe. Staff and young people from other youth centres in Bournemouth will be instrumental in helping to create and design the sorts of activities available from the new building.”

Dorset Police Safer Neighbourhood Team will have dedicated office space, interview rooms and meeting facilities providing a central location for Boscombe staff.

The Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (currently based at Gloucester Road Police Station), Boscombe Regeneration Team (currently based in Roumelia Lane) and the Integrated Youth Service for Boscombe are all moving in under one roof to deliver their services right in the heart of Boscombe. Above the ‘Boscombe Base’ the owners are busy completing the development of 39 residential flats which will be available to rent. The three teams are looking forward to moving in to the Boscombe Base during the summer.
